The City of Parkland is committed to ensuring that the sports leagues that operate within the city limits provide a caring, friendly and safe environment for their participants. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Bullying means systematically and chronically inflicting physical hurt or psychological distress on one or more students or employees. It is further defined as: Unwanted purposeful written, verbal, nonverbal, or physical behavior, including but not limited to any threatening, insulting, or dehumanizing gesture, by an adult or student, that has the potential to create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational environment or cause long term damage; cause discomfort or humiliation; or unreasonably interfere with the individual’s school performance or participation, is carried out repeatedly and is often characterized by an imbalance of power. Bullying may involve, but is not limited to unwanted teasing, threatening, intimidating, stalking, cyberstalking, cyberbullying, physical violence, theft, sexual, religious, or racial harassment, public humiliation, destruction of school or personal property, social exclusion, including incitement and/or coercion, rumor or spreading of falsehoods By accepting this waiver I acknowledge that I have read the definition of bullying and am aware that bullying will not be tolerated in the City of Parkland recognized sports league programs. I will make sure that my child understands what bullying is and that it will not be tolerated.

COACH CODE OF CONDUCT

As a coach in the Parkland Basketball Club (PBC):

1. I will always remember that children participate in youth sports to have fun and that youth recreation sports are for the children, not the adults.

2. I agree to follow ALL rules and regulations of the PBC, including the Parent Code of Conduct and Coach Code of Conduct.

3. I will not engage in any form of disrespectful conduct towards officials, coaches, players, fans, spectators or league representatives at any time.

4. I will not engage in any form of harassment, taunting, booing, or use of profane language or gestures towards officials, coaches, players, fans, parents, spectators or league representatives and that doing so may result in suspension or lifetime ban from the league and league activities.

5. I will not post any derogatory, false, hateful, or mean remarks or commentary about the league, officials, coaches, players, fans, parents, spectators or league representatives on any social media platforms or messaging applications and that doing so may result in suspension or lifetime ban from the league and league activities.

6. I will respect the officials and their authority during games. I will not verbally, or through gestures or looks, criticize an official's call or decision even though I may disagree with it. I understand that I may ask a question of an official for clarification of a call but that the call is final and the question is not a forum for debate. I recognize that the officials are trying their best and are required to make judgment calls in mere seconds in less-than-ideal circumstances. I will NEVER confront an official verbally or physically and recognize that any threats or physical contact with an official or league representative will result in law enforcement being called and a suspension or lifetime ban from PBC.

7. I understand that PBC does not utilize instant replay and that videos taken by coaches, parents, fans, or spectators are not permitted to be used to undermine or reverse a referee’s call.

8. I will respect and support all of the children in the PBC. If a parent or guardian has a concern or issue, I will NOT discuss it at the court in front of other players or parents. Instead, I will discuss it in private, and if necessary, with a league representative present.

9. I will not encourage any behaviors or practices that could endanger the health, including mental health, safety or well-being of any officials, coaches, players, fans, parents, spectators or league representative.

10. I will teach my team to treat officials, coaches, players, fans, parents, spectators and league representatives with respect, regardless of race, creed, color, sex, religious or political beliefs, or ability level.

11. If I am asked to leave the court due to behavior, I will immediately and without delay leave the court and the park. If my child/dependent has no alternate transportation then I agree that at all times I will remain in my vehicle, where parked, until the conclusion of the game, practice, event or activity. Once over I will remain in my vehicle while my child/dependent walks to said vehicle. Once my child/dependent arrives at said vehicle I will immediately leave the park.

12. I will ensure that I will arrive and leave games and practices in a timely fashion.

13. I will inform opposing coaches and league representatives of any physical or mental disability or ailment that may affect the safety of any child and/or the safety of others.

14. I will require my team to resolve conflict in a sportsmanlike manner, without the use of foul, insulting or hurtful language and without physical violence.

15. I recognize that league representatives are volunteers and are doing their best and I will give them the respect they deserve because without them we would not have a league.

16. I understand that if I am ejected from a game (from pre-game to post-game) that I am also suspended for the next full game for that team and the next game of any and all other teams that my other children/dependents are on.

17. I hereby agree that if I fail to conform my conduct to the foregoing while coaching PBC games and practices that I may be subject to disciplinary action that includes but is not limited to: Verbal warnings; Written warnings; Suspension or immediate ejection; Suspension from future PBC games, practices, events and activities; Suspension for the remainder of the PBC season; Lifetime suspension from all PBC games, practices, events and activities.

18. I understand that if I am referred to the league's discipline committee as a result of any of my actions that they will provide a recommendation to the league president and that the decision of the league president IS FINAL. Still further, I understand that I may be the subject of discipline without being referred to the league's discipline committee and in that scenario the decision of the league president IS FINAL. I agree to help make PBC fun, to help teach good sportsmanship, and to promote winning and losing with dignity and class. By registering as a coach for the PBC it is hereby agreed that I have read, understand and agree to ALL terms and conditions of the above Coach Code of Conduct.

SCHEDULE ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Please be aware that Parkland Basketball schedules games and practices throughout the season at all times that Broward County Schools are in session, so be aware that there will likely be games and practices during private school breaks if they do not coincide with Broward County breaks. Be aware of this before registering your child if this is a concern. All schedules are subject to change. Weather directly impacts our ability to play on the outdoor courts. The Board will do its best to provide as much notice as possible in the event of cancelations or schedule changes. TeamSideline will ALWAYS have the most accurate details of your schedule and this should be the primary source. If games are cancelled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, the schedule may adjust for all teams later in the season. Not all games are guaranteed to be made up, but all efforts to do so will be taken.

LIGHTNING POLICY

I am aware that outdoor sports in Florida is subject to weather conditions, specifically rain and lightning. The City of Parkland maintains a Thor Guard and/or Perry Weather lighting monitoring and alarm system (lightning monitor system) at the basketball courts. I am also aware that the status of the Thor Guard and/or Perry Weather system can be monitored on a computer or mobile device at: https://www.cityofparkland.org/Facilities/Facility/Details/5 I am also aware that the lightning monitor system is located behind basketball court number 4. I am further aware that the lightning monitor system includes an audible siren and a visual indicator. I agree that upon my arrival, and for the duration of my stay at the courts for all basketball practices, games, events and activities that I will monitor the lightning monitor system. I recognize that if the lightning monitor system is under a lighting alert that the alarm will initially sound and that the system’s visual alert will continue during the pendency of the alert(which can last 15 minutes or more). I am fully aware that if the lightning monitor system is active then all courts are CLOSED and I (and my guests) and my child/dependent MUST be completely off the courts and in a building or inside a vehicle for the duration of the active alarm. I (and my guests) and my child/dependent understand and agree that standing on the courts, standing on the side or back of the courts, standing or sitting in the park, standing in any open area, or standing in the parking lot IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH and does not comply with this rule or the City of Parkland lightning policy. I (and my guests) and my child/dependent further understand and agree that we will not go on the courts or any other open areas until the three siren all-clear is sounded by the lightning monitor system. I further understand and agree that I may arrive at the basketball courts just after the initial single siren lightning alarm is sounded and thus will not hear the initial lighting alarm. I agree that to prevent against unintentional noncompliance with the City of Parkland lighting policy it is my responsibility to check the lightning monitor system to determine the courts are under an active lightning alert. Finally, I understand and agree that I (and my guests) and my child/dependent will fully comply with all Park Ranger, Parks and Recreation staff, and Parkland Basketball Club Board member instructions as it relates to lighting.
