PARKLAND BASKETBALL CLUB

CAGER DIVISION/SENIOR -- GAME RULES

1)     Club rules apply unless specified to the contrary by the following rules.

2)     Games will be played with a Youth size (27”) basketball shooting at a 9’ basket.

3)     Seven minute running clock per quarter, except for the last 2 minutes of each half, when the clock will stop on the referees whistle.

4)     All Players must play Man-to-Man defense!  Zone defenses are prohibited! All players will line up at half court before the start of each quarter, with their coaches, to determine defensive assignments.  During the game, the defender must be within 6’ of the person they’re guarding.  If the offensive player is more than 6’ outside the 3-point arc, the defender doesn’t have to go beyond the 3-point arc.  If the offensive team has an inbound play in their own back court, all players on the defensive team must initially set-up inside the 3-point arc until the offense advances the ball over half court.

5)     Backcourt defense is prohibited at all times!  Defensive players cannot pressure the offensive player once he/she has gained possession of the ball in his/her backcourt.  If the offensive team loses control of the ball in the backcourt, the defensive team cannot try to take possession of the ball until it crosses the half court line.  The ball must cross into the frontcourt before the defensive player can pressure the ball.

6)     Double-teaming is prohibited UNLESS; the offensive player in control of the ball is in the lane.

7)     On any violations of Rules #4, #5 & #6 above (zone defenses, backcourt guarding, and two on one guarding outside the paint), the referee will stop the game and award the ball to the offensive team out of bounds.  The 4th combined warning (and each subsequent warning) will result in a two shot technical foul with the offensive team keeping possession of the ball.

8)     Foul shots will be taken from the yellow line inside the regular foul line.  At half time, each player on both teams will shoot two foul shots.  Made foul shots will count towards the score.  If the teams don’t have the same number of players, a player(s) on the team with the lesser number, who made the fewest of their first two shots, will be selected to shoot again (i.e. if Team A has eight players and Team B has six, two of the players on Team B who missed the most shots will be allowed to shoot again).

9)     All players must play at least 1 full quarter at the guard position.  This entails either inbounding or dribbling/passing the ball over mid-court in all backcourt situations.  It is the coach’s responsibility to make sure this is properly coded in the scorebook.

10) The 10-second backcourt rule will not be reset when a team calls a time out.  The ball must be advanced past the half court line within 10 seconds no matter how many time outs are called.

11)   On all out of bounds plays, in the last 2 minutes of each half, where the ball is to be inbound in the frontcourt, the offensive team cannot throw the ball into the backcourt to put the ball into play.  If the ball is inbounded into the backcourt over and back will be called.
